Telluride, Colorado – Mountain Activities, Events, and Gorgeous Scenery

Ahhh .. Summer in the mountains. Telluride, CO has some great summer events lined up. Plus one awesome summer camp program for the kids. Here’s a preview:

Wine Festival: June 29 - July 1 Savor wines from around the world as attendees perfect their palette with the guidance of top sommeliers, wine makers and chefs. Explore tastes, textures, styles and aromas throughout this weekend of luncheons, tastings and seminars. 888-783-0257.

Fourth of July For more than 100 years, the Volunteer Fire Department has hosted a "small town" Fourth of July celebration featuring an unforgettable Fourth of July parade (guests are welcome in the parade), an afternoon picnic barbecue and a spectacular fireworks display in Town Park. Kids can ride an antique fire truck and play games all day.

Wild West Fest: July 5-8 This family-oriented festival celebrates the spirit of the West. Events include celebrity-cutting, performances at the Sheridan Opera House and mentorships. 970-728-6363.

Hard Rock 100: July 13 In this grueling 101-mile run, participants follow an altitude challenge course that begins in Silverton, passes through Telluride, and winds up back in Silverton. Better eat your Wheaties! 970-259-3693.

Joffrey Ballet of Chicago: July 20-21 & July 27-28 The internationally acclaimed troupe returns to Telluride for its summer residency. 800-745-8772.

Mountain Bike Classic: July 21-22 One of the toughest legs on the NORBA circuit! Races include cross-country, criterion and trials. 970-728-6016.

Jazz Celebration: August 3-5 Join jazz legends Ray Brown, James Moody, Kevin Mahogany, Terence Blanchard, Kevin Eubanks, Kenny Barron, Regina Carter and other jazz greats for music in Town Park by day and in intimate bar venues by night. 970-728-7009.

Chamber Music Festival: August 9-12 & 17-19 A free concert in Town Park, evening concerts at the Sheridan Opera House, open rehearsals, a dessert concert and a children's concert are among the highlights of this festival, now in its 28th year. 970-728-8686 for info.

Kid's Adventure Camp 2001 The Kids Adventure Camp is designed for children ages 3 to 5 and 6 to 12. Programs run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Monday - Desert Meets the Mountains: Collect different types of plants from all over Telluride Mountain, discuss their differences and discover how the high altitude of Telluride effects each.

Tuesday - Wild Mountain Creatures: Discover evidence of different animals in the Telluride region and learn more about each. Learn about animal tracks, their migration in summer and winter and their habitats in a fun, hands-on manner.

Wednesday - Volcanoes and Rocks: Build and active volcano, collect volcanic, sedimentary and conglomerate rocks, learn about famous volcanoes around the world and have fun doing it.

Thursday - Dams, Mines and Cliffs: Explore some of the Telluride region's dams, mines and cliffs while learning about their significance in history and today's society.

Friday - Search & Rescue: Learn about some of the hazards of mountain living including lightning, avalanches, cliffs, creeks, high winds and mountain animals. Your day will include a field trip to the Marshall's office to examine different types of search and rescue tools.
