Two-Thirds of Parents Say Back-To-School Shopping is Worse Than Sitting in Traffic, Doing Taxes or Going to the Dentist, Survey Finds

Personal Shopper(TM) Survey Finds One in Five U.S. Parents Actually Dread It

Sixty-four percent of parents feel the experience of back-to-school (BTS) shopping is time-consuming or stressful and 20 percent actually dread it, according to a new online survey commissioned by Personal Shopper (personalshopper.com). Sixty-one percent say "staying within my budget" is the biggest challenge. However, 70 percent say "getting deals on the items both they and their kids want" would make the experience more enjoyable.

The Personal Shopper Back-to-School Survey of over 2,000 U.S. adults by Harris Interactive(R) reveals 18 percent of those surveyed say BTS shopping "makes me feel stressed"; 14 percent ask that someone "wake me up when it's over"; and 12 percent lament they "wish that BTS shopping wasn't so time consuming."

"The survey confirms that time-starved consumers are looking for better ways to find the things their family's need. PersonalShopper.com takes the stress out of BTS shopping by scouring millions of products to bring you deals and items from the brands your children love at prices you want," says Laura Silsby, mother of three, CEO and Founder, Personal Shopper, Inc. "It's like having a free virtual shopping assistant working for you 24/7, saving you time and money.

Key Challenges Parents Mention in the Survey:
* 61 percent say "staying within my budget," moms, more than dads (69 vs. 48 percent);
* 29 percent say that "keeping my child/children focused on the things on our BTS shopping list";
* 20 percent say "having to make multiple trips to the mall and/or different stores all over town with their children in tow";
* 18 percent say "not having enough time to get BTS shopping done";
* 17 percent say "arguing with my child/children in public";
* 15 percent say "managing the logistics of the shopping trips, e.g., the order of stores to visit, how many stores to visit in one trip";
* 15 percent say "not being able to find the brands my child/children want."

BTS Shopping Dreaded by Parents:

Among those parents planning to go BTS shopping this year, about one-half (48 percent) indicate that, in their opinion, BTS shopping is worse than at least one of nine activities listed, specifically:

* 21 percent say it is worse than "sitting in traffic";
* 20 percent say it is worse than "doing laundry";
* 12 percent say it is worse than "visiting their in-laws";
* 12 percent say it is worse than "cleaning my house/apartment";
* 11 percent say it is worse than "helping my children with their homework";
* 10 percent say it is worse than "paying my bills";
* nine percent say it is worse than "working longer hours at my job";
* eight percent say it is worse than "doing my taxes"; and
seven percent say it is worse than "going to the dentist."

Making Back-to-School Shopping a Better Experience

Parents who plan to go BTS shopping said there were some things that would make the experience more enjoyable for them. These include:

* 70 percent say "getting deals on the items both they and their kids want";
* 45 percent say "finding the brands and items their child/children want all in one place";
* 45 percent say getting it done in less time";
* 29 percent say "not having to drag my children from store to store"; and
